Taiko - Todd Wilson

It is a pleasure to return to the Sheridan Japanese School taiko program to teach and advise the students.  I am working with two groups, experienced and beginner, once a week on Thursday afternoons.  I am very pleased to see the continued enthusiasm of the students and staff for taiko.

My involvement with taiko drumming at the Sheridan Japanese School began in 2001. The initial training of students began with their help in making  four drums.  Two more taiko were added later to complete the set.

My experience with taiko started in 1998 with the formation of Monmouth Taiko.  The performance group now has nine members, seven of whom are native to Japan.  Monmouth Taiko performs at schools and seasonal festivals throughout Oregon.  I have attended many workshops at taiko conferences, and two week long training sessions in Japan.  When I am not playing taiko, I do grafting work in local orchards and manage my own fruit tree nursery and orchard located west of Monmouth.
